Planning to start the gym. Before starting work out in the gym few things should be kept in the mind. While there are no doubt plenty of mistakes made daily in gyms around the world, this doesn’t mean you have to be part of the crowd!

1. Consistency is the Key.

Consistency is the most important point in the list. You must have heard, what is the difference between good and great? Consistency is the answer. You have to be consistent when trying to build muscle or burn fat.
Progressive overload is the most important aspect of muscle building.
Progressive overload: In order for a muscle to grow, strength to be gained, performance to increase, or for any similar improvement to occur, the human body must be forced to adapt to a tension that is above and beyond what it has previously experienced. In easy words, keep challenging your body. Keep trying to break your personal records. Keep increasing the weight you lift weekly. If you’re not training with progression you’re not working out, period! Muscle only responds to stress, the stress of load and training volume. If you’re doing more work with more load your muscle will have no choice but to adapt and grow bigger and stronger. If your focusing on “confusing the muscles” or you’re not committed to your training program your results will be slim to none in the long term.
2. Skip or Ignore Cardio
Do you skip warm up to save time and get started on the workout right away?
Then, go back in time to your school days and remember your physical training class always started with a good ten minutes of warm up. While you giggled doing all those stretches, it did ensure that your muscles became elastic and flexible enough to endure the runs and exercises you would do after that warm up. True, to its name, warm up increases the temperature of your body and blood flow to the muscles. While there is no hard and fast rule on how long should you warm up, 10-20 minutes are enough to prep your body for the intense training sessions ahead.
3. Workout Without Goal
It is necessary to understand your goal. Either you are doing bodybuilding for certain championship or just for fitness. From the workout strategies to the diet plan and supplementation of both the goal is quite different. Anyhow, the point to tell you is that you should be clear in your mind about the purpose for joining the gym whether it could be to gain a weight by 5kg or to convert your fluffy body into shaped one. It could be anything but it should be clear on your first day itself.
4. Workout for too Long
Unless you are one of the few people who enjoy spending countless hours in the gym you should pay attention to this pointer very carefully.
Exercise intensity has an inverse relationship with the duration i.e. if you lift really heavy, you won’t be able to perform as many reps.
As you pass the 45-minute mark in your workout, cortisol levels begin to rise in your body. The concern is that as cortisol levels rise in a workout, the hormone will signal your body to use your muscle protein as a source of energy-essentially wiping out the positive effects of your workout. The exact time when this begins depends on the intensity of your workout, but the levels gradually increase once it starts.
